  • Cenote II is based on the cenote sagrado in Chichen itza, it is an intersection of four squares with mirror plexi glass, creating an invisible circle. To see the piece you stand looking down directly at the edge of it as one would stand at the natural site. Furthermore the center holds a two image postcard, one side depicts a group of tourists peering into the waters and the other postcard depicts the same cenote but lacks any figures, so in this way the viewers body take the place of the tourists found on the other image. At the bottom I have placed 3 glass colored frogs and a jade stone that as the viewer moves the object images overlap each other. The mirror together with the viewers position create the appearance of the frogs and jade stone transforming. It is a trick of the eye, a reminder that things are always in transformation mode and that our perception is flawed existing always in a world of appearances, a world of reflections.
